The world is colourful with a great diversity of cultures in which every human being is unique. For this suspended object, which seems to escape gravity, I venture on how to translate an idea of harmony on the one hand and goodwill on the other. If every human being could achieve serenity and harmony around oneself, there would be peace and place for all in our world. In this miniature cosmos, the two elements, metal and acrylic intertwine, they are assembled by aluminium and acrylic rods, and are populated by human beings, symbolically represented by the coloured figurines. "Tribute to Paul Wittgenstein"
The keys of a piano destined for demolition - black and white - were suddenly there. I received them from a friend who knows and likes my work. I thought about it for a long time and then, as always, inspiration struck one night. It was clear to me that a tribute to Paul Wittgenstein would fit perfectly into my series of ‘Tribute to’, after Faraday, Hedy Lamarr, John Cage, Ada Lovelace and others. In this mobile I express my admiration for Paul Wittgenstein, this exceptional pianist who lost his right arm in the First World War. He worked intensively, arranging pieces for the left hand himself and learning new works composed for him. He enjoyed worldwide fame. |
"TACET"
TACET is a musical term to indicate that an instrument does not sound, during an entire movement. In John Cage's 1952 composition 4′33″, a TACET is indicated for all three movements. The first performance by pianist David Tudor lasted 4 minutes and 33 seconds of silence in which everything seemed to stop as if suspended in time and space, so my kinetic work TACET, hanged and abandoned to the invisible forces of the air, seeming to escape gravity reflecting light. “There is no such thing as an empty space or an empty time. "HE is watching you"
When creating this work I had in mind the theory developed by Dominic Johnson in his book “God is watching you”, did the concept of a supernatural Divine Being seeing everything, registering and judging everything contribute to the evolution and functioning of larger human communities, by reducing egoism and enhancing collaboration? This religious conviction has nowadays lost importance and effectiveness as science, technology and new philosophies have emerged. With his abilities man creates in return a rich range of highly complex control techniques in order to monitor the constantly growing community. "Folía"
"Tribute to Joan Carles Amat" Music has no border. For this artwork I took my inspiration from the guitar and from one of the oldest European musical themes: "Folia". The acrylic glass notes of the sculpture symbolically represent the "Folia" and as Claude Debussy said: "Music is the space between the notes". This "Folia" is a tribute to the Catalan physician, writer and guitarist Joan Carles Amat (1572-1642), whose treatise for the guitar was known throughout Europe. "The Golden Ratio - Tribute to Leonardo da Vinci"
Fascinated by the "Vitruvian Man" and the "Aerial Screw" of Leonardo da Vinci, I created with humility the suspended-mobile called: "The Golden Ratio - Tribute to Leonardo da Vinci". I combine elements of the past with materials of today bringing into play the memory, the intellect and my fantasy. ---- Affascinata dall’uomo vitruviano, e dall’helix pteron di Leonardo ho realizzato con umiltà quest’omaggio. Quest’opera è un mobile sospeso al soffitto, sembra volare e superare la forza di gravità. "The Whirl"
The gigantic natural spectacle and fascinating show that a twirl of air, of water or even of emotions offer, inspired me to create this object: “The Whirl” as an exciting organised confusion. Combining the digital with the traditional I made this work, designing on the computer, having it printed and forming the other parts by hand. The printed piece of the sculpture looks like a flash-frozen whirl of water. The 3D printing technology in that case is unrivalled and allows me to capture the very moment in which the water flash-freezes and the material used gives this particular effect of translucence and weightlessness I wanted to reach. “The First Key to Computer Science"
"Tribute To Ada Lovelace" Ada Lovelace was the key to opening the door to our computer age. ADA LOVELACE (1815 - 1852) visionary recognized the importance of the computer far beyond concrete calculations when dealing with the "Analytical Engine" developed by Charles Babbage. She developed a program for the "machine" for calculating Bernoulli numbers. She recognized the difference between a pure calculating machine and programming that can be used to formulate complex algorithms and run them automatically. In order to present this topic artistically, my work shows a complex network combinatorics similar to the many individual steps that ultimately lead to a programme or algorithm. The foundations for this are inextricably linked with the name Ada Lovelace. With strong feelings and great admiration, I drew some algorithms on this strip 180 years later. What is behind the mask?
What is hiding?
Hiding behind the shiny, immaculate or colourful, dull or funny appearance.
Is behind it a doubtful, dirty, corrupt, squidgy mass oozing out of its orifices?
Or, are behind the mask a bright, sharp and brillant mind, and a sound, flawless and transparent soul?
The antipodes in this piece of artwork: the aluminium part and the acrylic glass part clash together and symbolically create the thorny question.
We observe, we consider and we have the options.

The "Wow Signal"
In Ohio, on August 15, 1977 the "Big Ear", the radio telescope of the Ohio State University Radio Observatory was pointed toward the constellation Sagittarius.
Suddenly, the "Big Ear" received a strong narrowband radio signal, which lasted for 72 seconds. It did draw the attention of the astronomer working then on the SETI project of NASA.
SETI stands for "Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence".
Amazed at how closely the signal matched the expected signature of an interstellar signal, the astronomer J.Ehman circled the signal "6EQUJ5" on the computer printout and added the comment "wow".
This comment became the name of the signal.
This metal artwork is the result of my attempt to turn the "Wow Signal" into a shape.

When she finally received the "Frontier Foundation Pioneer Award" in 1997 for this invention, she remarked:
"It's about time".
Taken aback by this fact it was about time for me to create this object "Frequency Hopping Fantasy" with artistic freedom to pay tribute to Hedy Lamarr, bearing in mind the "Foundation's" objective: "The protection of civil liberties, such as privacy and freedom of expression, as new communications technologies emerge".

"What difference does it make to the firmament
whether one is a fly or an elephant ? *
*Jean de la Fontaine (1621) in "The Elephant and Jupiter's Ape"
We could imagine the way to the firmament as weightless, airy and flying, a way open to all regardless whether one is an elephant of a fly...
I chose light, shiny, swinging and transparent materials for the way up, the path leading from the stony earth to heaven.
With this object I invite the viewer to for a while direct his gaze and inspiration towards the firmament.

The vanitas still life paintings (lat. vanitas, appearance, vanity, transience) were very much appreciated in the Renaissance and especially during the baroque period.
My artwork “Vanitas” expresses how fragile the effort of human beings is to be handsome, young, glamorous and jolly.
Like in the vanitas-paintings I use the symbols: skull – inevitability of death, mirror – vanity, pearls – perfection, sand-glass – progress of time, represented here as a hand-drill when set in motion will go on and on turning…
Is today the finiteness of life and of the earthly goods still omnipresent?

"Open Wire"
Despite the controversy over whether Elisha Gray or Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone, this invention is of universal importance.
At one time the network was overhead with open wire telephone lines. The phone cable, fixed to a glass or porcelain insulator, would go from one telegraph pole to the other.
This porcelain insulator inspired me to create the artwork "Open wire".

Tribute to the great sculptor Ruth Asawa (1926-2013), who created her sculptures at home - with the involvement of her 6 children.
Tribute to the great Japanese artist Toko Shinoda who died in March 2021 at the age of 108, who made the decision to forego the path that seemed determined for women of her generation.
"I never got married and I have no children.

"Totem"
Packaging as means of protection and information becomes a mountain of waste in our society of mass consumption.
This pile of trash turns into a threat from which human beings protect themselves mostly by destroying it.
In my artwork, the plastic beverage packaging that became trash changes again into the starting point of the sculpture "Totem".
The Totem as a protection against the mountain of garbage.
